Is the Volume Fraction the Higher the Better?
No.
For a mature AlSiC production line, there is no inconvenience to produce 85% volume fraction AlSiC product, the cost is not higher.
There is some advantage of high volume fraction, like higher thermal conductivity and lower CTE. But too high a volume fraction will only push the material feature toward ceramic character, and the AlSiC could be fragile. Therefore, the common volume fraction chosen in the industry is from 63% to 70%, over-all properties are reliable and stable.
By the way, what is the ceramic volume fraction? That is the ratio ceramic volume to AlSiC volume. When ceramic volume fraction does not reach the indicated criteria, neither will TC and CTE do.
